Compare And Contrast Scarlet Letter And Young Goodman Brown

Trust –a feeling of confidence in someone or something other than oneself –is the building block of society. It binds relationships, it enhances communities. Those neglectful to their own idea –those who cease growth due to its restrictive nature –surrender their minds to its malevolent manner. When blindsided by someone they trust, one feels extreme anger or profound betrayal, such as Hester’s newfound optimism despite society’s attempt to humiliate her and Goodman Brown’s hopelessness after seeing people he trusts conversing with the devil. In Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, Hester gains a new strength from the letter A after recognizing the evil nature of Puritan society. Whereas in Hawthorne’s â€Å"Young Goodman Brown,† witnessing†¦show more content†¦In contrast to the embellished and bedecked imagery of the letter A, Hawthorne uses gloomy and dreary diction to describe the forest Goodman Brown trave ls. While Hester bears the letter A unwillingly, Goodman Brown voluntarily enters the â€Å"deep dusk in the forest† to conferee with the devil (Hawthorne, â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† 1114). Goodman Brown lives his life as a devout religious man, however the temptation from the devil and the forest prove too strong for him to overcome. Neglecting his values at the start of the story alludes that Goodman Brown will sustain a permanent shift in his beliefs and ideals, either maturing or diminishing them. As Goodman Brown walks deeper and deeper into the forest, Hawthorne describes how the road â€Å"grew wilder and drearier, and more faintly traced, and vanished at length, leaving [Goodman Brown] in the heart of the dark wilderness† (1118). The pessimistic depiction of the forest suggests he feels unwelcomed there, alluding to his feelings towards Puritan society. Furthermore, Hawthorne portrays the forest with â€Å"frightful sounds,† â€Å"creaking [†¦] tress,† and â€Å"howling [†¦] wild beasts† to imitate the devil’s abode, hell (1118). While the exquisite design of the letter A foreshadows a positive impact on Hester’s life, the eerie appearance of the forest portends a pessimistic outcome for Goodman Brown. Macro Econ Homework free essay sample

Other things remaining unchanged, as the quantity of money in circulation increases, the price level also increases in direct proportion and value of money decreases. What does the assumption of constant velocity imply? When we make the assumption that the velocity of money is constant, then the equation becomes the quantity theory of money. The quantity equation can be seen as a theory of what determines nominal GDP (the level of prices). With MV = PY (where velocity is constant), then a change in the quantity of money M must cause a proportionate change in nominal income PY. That is, if velocity is fixed, then the quantity of money determines the nominal value of the economy’s output/GDP. Suppose a country has a money demand function (M/P)^d = kY, where k is a constant parameter. The money supply grows by 12 percent per year, and real income grows by 4percent per year. To ? nd the average in? ation rate the money demand function is %growth Md ? %growth P = %growth Y 12% 4% = 8% b. Increase in real income growth will result in a lower average inflation rate. For example, if real income grows at 6% and money supply growth remains at 12%, then inflation falls to 6%. Here a larger money supply is required to support a higher level of GDP, which results in lower inflation. c. 1/k = V When people hold a larger percent of their income (large k), money changes hands infrequently, or V is small. When people hold smaller percent of their income (k is small), money changes hands frequently because V is large. The money demand parameter k and the velocity of money V are opposite sides of the same coin. . If velocity growth is positive, then all else the same in? ation will increase. For example, let’s say that the money supply grows by 12% and real income grows by 4 percent. When velocity growth is zero, in? ation is 8%. Suppose now that velocity grows 2%: this will cause prices to grow by 10%. In? ation increases because the same quantity of money is being used more often to purchase the same amount of goods. Here the money supply should gr ow more slowly to compensate for the positive growth in velocity.

For instance, music-pirating which is in other words, the unauthorized duplication and/or distribution of music has become a large problem due to the internets popularity and its laissez-fairer stance on music pirating. K. , and the U. S, 24 percent of participants reported that they had already downloaded a movie online in their lifetime, and 69 percent said that they did not believe that online movie piracy was that big of a concern. Even though movie pirating does not affect us in any negative way, the movie industry loses approximately $3 billion in annual revenue due to global piracy every year. In essence, Internet is the leading cause behind why mom actors and singers are getting underpaid for their hard work (Scarlet Pursuit). Surprisingly, the only condition under which file sharing and the internet is useful with regards to music, television and movies, is how it helps promote groups which have not been discovered yet (My Daily Tech). In conclusion, one can see how internet has mainly a negative impact on movies, television and music. Even though it may help promote certain bands, actors, movies and songs, it causes a lot more harm than good. In other words, music and film industries due to the internet lose billions of dollars each year.
